Ellie Mulcahy is Director of Research and Operations at The Centre for Education and Youth.

She ensures that research continuously shapes our thinking and underpins our work, supporting the team to conduct high quality, robust research that leads to changes in policy and practice.

Ellie brings experience of psychology research and the early years to the team and believes that excellent education should be available to all children and young people. She has carried out research into widening participation, youth homelessness and the impact of literacy interventions in prisons.

Ellie is a co-author of a series of three reports on inequalities in higher education with King’s College London’s Widening Participation department. She also supports organisations to develop their practice and has conducted impact evaluations for a range of social enterprises to help them manage and achieve their aims.

Ellie previously worked as a reception teacher having joined the founding cohort of the Teach First Early Years programme, before working with Teach First to develop the Early Years Programme. She has also previously conducted research for Teach First and the Behavioural Insights Team. Ellie has been a governor and was Chair of the Teach First South West Action Network.
